Tenure-Track Faculty Appointment

Applicants are invited for a tenure-track faculty appointment at Towson University in the Department of Chemistry starting fall 2009.

This position is contingent upon final funding approval for fiscal year 2010. A Ph.D. in chemistry, forensic science or related discipline is required. A strong preference will be given to candidates with expertise in analytical chemistry with demonstrated application to forensic science or with postdoctoral experience or professional work experience in a forensic science laboratory. Applicants are expected to possess a commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrate potential for productive forensic science research, and pursue external funding to support forensic science research programs involving undergraduate and/or graduate students. Position supports the undergraduate Forensic Chemistry and graduate Forensic Science programs in the Department of Chemistry through teaching selected courses, providing research opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students, developing curriculum, academic advising of students, and participation on programmatic committees. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in teaching and research, specifically analytical chemistry and forensic science.

The Department of Chemistry, which supports interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Science and in Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics/Biochemistry, currently has 16 tenured and tenure track faculty, 6 staff, and approximately 250 Chemistry and Forensic Chemistry undergraduate students and approximately 35 graduate students. The Department is housed in The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics. The College has been the recipient of several philanthropic gifts and awards which significantly enhance the opportunities of both faculty and students in the College.
