The Intramural Research Program of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering is seeking two exceptional interdisciplinary tenure-track principal investigators to lead and conduct cutting edge research in all aspects of the development of new technologies in high-resolution optical imaging that bridge the gap between molecular and cellular scales. The research will be situated on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland in newly renovated laboratories. Funding for these positions will provide for state-of-the-art equipment, postdoctoral fellows, students, and technical staff. The investigators will have the opportunity to set up their own laboratories, which could include facilities for cell and molecular biology as well as for building innovative instrumentation. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will take full advantage of the abundant opportunities that exist for collaboration with other imaging scientists across all the NIH institutes to apply techniques to biomedical research.

The successful candidate for each position must have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree plus a minimum of three years postdoctoral research, and should have substantial experience in cellular and molecular imaging documented by an extensive publication record of original research, as well as a strong background in physics, chemistry or engineering.

Application Process: Candidates should submit a five-page research plan, curriculum vitae, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to Sheila Barrett at sbarrett@mail.nih.gov or Bldg. 13, Rm. 3N17, National Institutes of Health, 13 South Drive, Bethesda, MD 20892. Email is preferred. Applications must be received by October 15, 2008.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or nonresident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorizing visa.
