Assistant Controller at Osiris Therapeutics

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors or Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent and CPA required, with at least 10 years of related experience and/or training, including at least 4 years of accounting experience at a corporate level for a publicly traded company preferably in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley and Section 404 requirements.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Finance Systems /Applications.
  • Experience with internal reporting in a matrix organization (i.e., departments/divisions basis and project teams basis).
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Drive and motivation to upgrade the level of the financial organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound business judgment and keep key executives and team members informed on essential matters.

Here is the job description: Reports to the Controller and manages all aspects of external financial reporting, tax compliance and internal management reporting for company and project results. Responsible for assisting with SEC reporting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Responsible for developing business partner relationships with internal and external groups that will improve the flow of financial information relevant to the company. Work with other departments to obtain necessary information for financial reporting, and develop and implement standard operating procedures.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of the company's financial statements for SEC reporting purposes in accordance with GAAP, including footnotes, MD&A, required tables, etc., including maintaining documentation required to prepare the statements, notes, tables, and schedules. Assure appropriate reviews with the company's audit committee and disclosure committee, and more broadly compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Responsible for preparing financial statements for internal management reporting, with support from Controller.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing tax return work papers for our filings.
  • Interface with the company's external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Responsible for producing and communicating a month end close schedule that ensures accurate financial results will be available in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and complying with written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for the finance and accounting functions in compliance with Section 404, and working with responsible parties in other areas of the company to assure that appropriate financial controls are incorporated in their SOP's.. Develop training for accounting staff as required.
  • Review disbursements for accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense recording on collaboration and license agreements.
  • Review various contracts, orders, vouchers, etc. to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Maintain accounting records and procedural documentation to allow for transparency in reporting.
  • Monitor and insure compliance with all laws, regulatory requirements, and generally accepted standards and best practices applicable to the organization.
  • Develop and implement operational processes and procedures needed to accommodate organizational growth.

This position is located in the Office of Technology Development (OTD), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH). OTD has primary responsibility for the technology transfer function of NIAID. This function involves protecting and disseminating the Governments investment in new inventions, proprietary materials and information for purposes of facilitating their conversion to commercially available products that improve public health.
