Technical Specialist I, Cell Biology/Cell Therapy, QC/TS

This position will be located in Walkersville, MD.

Your Role:
Responsible for performing product testing and laboratory support duties to deliver contract manufacturing services for key Cell Therapy customers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Participate in QC testing of clinical grade product according to cGMPs. Perform suspension and viability cell counts using both manual and automated systems. Perform cell-mediated bioassays, including immunofluorescent and cytochemical staining protocols. Perform client specific cell bioassays. Participate in compliance audits. Perform data "approvals" on QACS and RenCS.
  • Participate in technology transfer of customer documentation and testing protocols. Participate in client meetings.
  • Prepare samples and maintain appropriate records for submission of samples to contract testing laboratories.
  • Review and write Standard Operating Procedures. Assist with Analyst training.
  • Conduct OOS investigations and assist Supervisor with technical troubleshooting/problem solving.
  • Record, analyze and maintain data. Order supplies and reagents. Maintain QC equipment and the laboratory environment.
  • Travel opportunities during new business development. Some travel may be required to facilitate training needs.

Your qualifications:
  • Candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related discipline with 4+ years additional experience. Or an Associates Degree with 5+ years of experience in a cGMP manufacturing/ Quality Control environment. Years of experience may be substituted for education in some instances.
  • Experience in cell culture techniques and aseptic technique is a plus.
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, technical writing.
  • Knowledge of cGMP (Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry) is a plus (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of basic and specialized laboratory equipment including biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, incubators, fluorescent and phase contrast/bright field microscopes, plate reader and microphotography equipment is a plus (Training will be provided).
  • Time Management, facilitation skills, project management skills, computer software skills.
  • Diplomacy, negotiation skills, written and oral communication, independent work skills, strong work ethic.

Job Summary
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a HHMI laboratory working in the area of developmental biology, cell signaling and cancer biology. The laboratory uses a combination of model system genetics and biochemistry to investigate signaling pathways that control organ size.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Independent research on the newly emerged Hippo signaling pathway using Drosophila, mice and cell culture models.
  • Perform various specialized scientific investigative procedures in support of assigned research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews to be used in determining most suitable research methods.
  • May configure, operate, and/or maintain specialized equipment.
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocol and assist in implementing modifications to optimize experimental results.
  • Coordinate specialized and novel research functions.
  • May use software applications to assemble, manipulate, format and/or perform statistical analysis of data.
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies, including assembly, organizational and interpretation of data.
  • Train others in complex technical protocols

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in genetics/development or related field
  • Extensive experience in Drosophila and/or mouse genetics/development
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience
  • Ability to prepare research reports for presentation to a large audience. Ability to draft research manuscripts
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple scientific areas and of the underlying principles and concepts
  • Able to critically review information. Readily understands new concepts
  • Ability to develop innovative processes to achieve goals. Reviews work activities to determine where new information could improve processes or move projects forward
