POSITION DESCRIPTION:
OpGen has an exciting, growth opportunity position as a Microbiology Associate in our Genome Mapping group. This position employs broad microbiology expertise towards isolating and culturing a wide variety of microorganisms, including pathogens, and extracting high molecular weight DNA for the purpose of producing whole genome maps. The Microbiology Associate also participates in numerous development projects with the opportunity to take the lead in various projects. Moreover, this position serves as a technical expert, working closely with customers, collaborators and scientists in our R&D group.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare high molecular weight genomic DNA from a variety of bacterial and fungal species. Optimize and troubleshoot procedures as needed, within the context of a GMP laboratory.
  • Isolate microbial species from different environmental, industrial, food and clinical samples.
  • Conduct literature searches and evaluate alternative technologies / methodologies; adapt methods and concepts as needed.
  • Perform routine procedures according to protocols.
  • Safe handling of pathogenic organisms.
  • Work as a part of a team to complete small and large projects.
  • Maintain and add to a library of bacterial and fungal species.
  • Occasional preparation of reagents, specialized media and related tasks.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
  • BS in Microbiology, cell biology or molecular biology: MS preferred
  • 2+ years experience working with a wide range of bacteria, including pathogens
  • Familiar with experimental design
  • Demonstrated ability with aseptic techniques
  • Prior experience with GMP highly desired

Kennedy Krieger’s clinical programs offer an interdisciplinary approach in treatment tailored to the individual needs of each child. The Department of Developmental Cognitive Neurology seeks a Research Assistant. The position involves all aspects of data acquisition and analysis within the fMRI lab, from task design to running experiments, to analyzing and archiving data. As part of the research team, the Research Assistant is also expected to participate in the interpretation of results and preparation of data for publication in concert with the PI, Laurie E. Cutting, Ph.D. and other research collaborators.

The patient populations we study include children with Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Neurofibromatosis Type 1. We also study typically developing children as well as adults.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • 2 years experience working in an imaging research lab can substitute for a higher degree. Bachelor’s degree required in an appropriate discipline (e.g., biology, neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science, physics).

Experience analyzing functional neuroimaging data would be optimal.

MRI has a position available in our laboratory located in Arlington, Virginia - for a Staff Scientist who performs substantial technical-based tasks and laboratory testing with minimal supervision using established protocols and SOPs. Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment, work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be well organized and methodical, yet flexible to changing priorities.
  • Computer proficient and ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Position will work as a team member to accomplish 24/7 field laboratory assignments.
  • Required to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Accuracy of data entry and database maintenance required.

  • Leadership abilities with strong problem-solving aptitude and managing time are a must.
