Technical Sales Representative — NIH/Mid-Atlantic

Laboratory Instrumentation for Microarray-Based Genetic Tests

SciGene develops and manufactures instruments that automate the workflows used with microarray-based diagnostic tests and in genome research. The Company offers a complete suite of instruments that prepare samples and incubate and process microarrays to provide high quality data and reliable test results.

As a member of the Technical Sales Team, you will sell instruments into molecular cytogenetics laboratories located in health care facilities and private diagnostic companies as well as to DNA research laboratories located in educational and government institutions.

Key job functions include:
  • Organize and conduct product presentations and demonstrations to new customers.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing customers by providing high level sales support.
  • Provide feedback to the Company to help guide new product development.
Candidates should have one of the following two backgrounds:
  • Previous sales experience is not required if you have 2+ years hands-on experience performing microarray based assays. SciGene will provide training if you are interested in transitioning to a technical sales position.

  • If you do not have microarray experience, you will have 2+ years proven successful experience selling laboratory automation equipment. SciGene will provide training on the technical aspects of microarray based methods.

All candidates will have the following skills:
  • 2 + years working in a DNA research or cytogenetics laboratory

  • Good multi-tasker / time management skills
  • Use of the computer for everything

Education: BS/MS degree in a life science discipline

Analyst

The SAIC ASSET Business Unit currently has a position open for a mid-level analyst to serve as a subject matter expert supporting the development and implementation of public health strategies, plans and policies for a commercial client in the petro-chemical industry.

Duties include research, analysis, and plans / policy support in the areas of public health/pandemic influenza (PI), emergency preparedness, critical infrastructure protection, physical security, anti-terrorism and continuity of operations. Activities may include: reviewing and evaluating public health, security and emergency response policies, plans and checklists; developing and implementing pandemic influenza response policies and plans; and developing and implementing public health/PI training programs and exercises. A working knowledge of international (i.e., World Health Organization), US Federal Government (i.e., Centers for Disease Control), and US state/local policies, strategies and guidance, including documents like the US National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza, the CDC's Interim Pre-pandemic Planning Guidance, and the Department of Defense Implementation Plan for Pandemic Influenza, is desired. The position will require approximately 50% international travel.Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Biology, Public Health, Infectious Diseases, or related field, preferred. Required Skills: The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition, the candidate should be able to accomplish tasks under limited supervision and have substantial self-motivation. The individual must possess a strong attention to detail, and be able to work as a contributing team member or team leader. The individual also will be required to complete important assignments on a short schedule. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other common office software applications is necessary. Desired Skills: Five (5) or more years related work experience is desired, as well as the ability to communicate complex concepts to a variety of audiences. Experience with pandemic influenza or biodefense policy and planning strongly desired. Fluency in one or more foreign languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, or French, is desired.

Postdoctoral Position

Children's National Medical Center - Washington, DC
Children's Research Institute

A Post-doctoral position in structural biology is available to train in structural biology of proteins of the urea cycle and arginine biosynthesis. The successful candidate will be mentored in generating and testing scientific hypotheses related to structural biology and biochemistry. He/she will work independently on projects under general guidance. Tasks will include design of study, collection and analysis of data, and reporting of results at symposia and in peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Education and Training Required:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in molecular biology or related field. Majors Preferred: Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Microbiology.

Experience Required:

2-3 years of related experience. Experience may have been obtained during doctoral training. Previous supervisory experience not required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Experience in protein biochemistry and molecular biochemistry and molecular biology methods. Math proficiency and basic statistical skills. Basic UNIX skills. The following specific skills are preferred: construction of plasmids, transfection of cultured cells, gel electrophoresis, PCR analysis, protein purification, RNA and DNA purification, organelle fractionation, SDS/PAGE and Western blotting.
